A graduate of Lenoir City High School, Andy Allen came to campus in 1990 and joined the Rugby team at Tennessee with no experience in the game, like most of the players of his era. A bruising #8, Allen quickly made a name for himself as a fierce competitor and punishing defender.
Allen played for the Knoxville Rugby Club in 1996 and 1997 but the demands of a career kept him away from the game for nearly a decade. The formation of the Smoky Mountain Athletic Conference and a team at Oak Ridge High School allowed him to get back fully involved in the sport. For 3 seasons (2004-2007) he worked hard with the high school side taking them from being an “expansion” team to one that was very competitive in the league.
Finding a passion for the game re-ignited Coach Allen was excited to test himself and joined the Staff at the University of Tennessee in 2008. Coaching the forwards, Allen has made 2 trips to the National Tournament with the team and was on the staff during the inaugural year of the CPD.
Andy Allen received his BA in English Literature from the University of Tennessee and for the last 16 years has been involved in the automotive industry. From retail sales and sales management he has moved on to support auto dealers with the Reynolds and Reynolds Company for the last 4 years.
At a young UT student in 1990, even before joining the rugby team, Allen met his wife, Susie on his very first day on campus. They were married in 1996 and their daughter, Meredith, was born 3 years later.
