David Codevilla, Tennessee's forwards coach, was a two-time collegiate All-American lock and two-time National Champion (1991 and 1992) during his collegiate playing days at the University of California, and played for six years in the Rugby Super League for Washington RFC, where he served as club president in 1996-1997. 

Codevilla joined the Tennessee staff in October 2010.  A 1992 University of California graduate, Codevilla earned his law degree from George Mason University School of Law in 1996.  He then clerked for the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, worked in private practice in Washington, D.C., served as Senior Counsel for the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, and was in-house counsel with Caterpillar Inc. prior to moving to Knoxville in January 2010.  He currently works in the Tennessee Valley Authority’s Office of General Counsel, handling nuclear contract and new generation development work, and is an adjunct professor at the University of Tennessee College of Law.

Codevilla and his wife, Jackie, have three sons: John, Tommy, and Jack.
