May 3, 2017 (Brentwood, Tennessee) Justin Walker was among four student athletes at Ravenwood High School to sign Volunteer Rugby Scholarship papers on Wednesday to attend the University of Tennessee. Head Coach Marty Bradley was on hand to welcome the newest Volunteers to the UT Rugby family.
The Volunteer Rugby Scholarship provides a combination of player stipend, full player kit and/or the waiver of the first year team fees for the freshman year. This combination of benefits is unique to each recipient and based on academic performance, rugby experience and character, commitment and devotion to the game as defined by the Tennessee Rugby Maxim: Family-School-Rugby. While many very talented incoming freshmen commit to play for the Volunteers each fall, only a few are also selected for the honor of receiving the Volunteer Rugby Scholarship.
Justin, the son of Cassandra and Al Walker, is just beginning his rugby career only just picking up the game last year having spent most of his time on the football field as a stand out defensive end.
The 5'11" / 195 lb forward plays lock and plans to study accounting at Tennessee.
