Vols get well earned road win in Oxford

Tennessee 53, Ole Miss 17

The Volunteers defeated Ole Miss in Oxford on Saturday to move to 2-1 in conference play and 4-1 overall.  UT overcame a sluggish start with handling errors and a problematic penalty count to lead 24-3 at the half.  A much cleaner attack in the second half produced better results with a 53-17 advantage at the final whistle.

After a couple of early tries, the Vols were slowed by a high penalty count and multiple handling errors.  While the defense held strong, the attack failed to generate points from ample possession.  Adjustments in attack pattern, personnel and attitude seemed to produce better results in the second half. Three tries in the first 10 minutes of the second half was the reward for a better effort to control the penalty count and a focus on possession rugby.

After an open week, the Vols return to action by hosting the University of Alabama on Saturday, October 21.  Kickoff is set for 1 PM.
