Volunteers square off against Indiana
February 27, 2010 (Knoxville, Tennessee) — Tennessee stepped outside of league play to take on a very strong and determined Indiana University on Saturday and came away with a 13-5 victory. It was a clash of two heavyweight programs as the Volunteers and Hoosiers went toe to toe for 80 minutes. Indiana, coming off a disappointing MidWest final loss that kept them from advancing to the national tournament was determined to prove their worth. They did that and much more keeping the final in doubt until the final moments. At the final whistle, all agreed that a new rivalry was born and the coaches of both teams were overheard making plans for the next encounter.

Indiana not only came to Knoxville with a strong team but also traveled with good numbers enabling the Volunteers to get some much appreciated playing time for the team. In the second game, UT gave up a well earned try to IU in the closing minutes and despite a spirited effort couldn't touch down the winning try as time expired. In the third match, Tennessee scored four tries in the first half and then played solid defense the rest of the way to claim the victory that ended a very productive day at the Tennessee Rugby Park.
