Volunteers conclude fall campaign with two victories
October 29, 2011 (Elon, North Carolina) — Tennessee traveled to Elon, North Carolina on a unusually cold and wet Saturday in October to take on Elon University and Wake Forest University. Putting together a solid pattern of play under difficult conditions, the Volunteers claimed two solid victories to conclude the fall season.
The Vols opened the day against the hosts Phoenix of Elon. The Volunteer forwards carried the team in the first half and built a three try lead. After Elon cut the score to 26-12, the Vols got their backline untracked and with some good support from the forwards, put across two tries to secure a well earned victory.
In the second match of the day, Tennessee Varsity squared off against its 4th Atlantic Coast Rugby League foe of the fall season. The Volunteers were able to use solid restarts as a productive attacking platform to put across 9 tries while using an aggressive defense to keep the Demon Deacon attack in check.
The Volunteers welcome the alumni back to Knoxville on November 05 while also turning their attention to sevens in preparation of the USA Rugby Sevens National Championship Tournament in December.
