April 10, 2021 (Hendersonville, TN) Tennessee finished up a challenging year with a very successful afternoon at the Sumner Rugby Complex in Hendersonville.

UT opened with the reserve players taking on Nashville B following Nashville A’s decisive 71-7 over Cleveland, OH.  As expected, it was a  physical match that was evenly played for most the 80 minutes.  Nashville took a 17-12 lead late to set up some final moment heroics from the Vols.  With no time remaining the Volunteers worked the ball into Nashville’s territory.  A couple of penalties and a well executed line out allow the Vols to put across the tying try.  Josh Oaks slotted the conversion and the Volunteers stole a 19 -17 victory with some impressive final moment execution.

Tennessee then squared off with the University of Memphis in a much anticipated neutral site match.   The Tigers found success  wide in the early minutes for a try but the Volunteers adjusted and ran across 3 tries of their own to take a 15-5 halftime advantage.   Some tactical changes at the half with both personnel and game management enabled the Volunteers to become much more productive with possession.  UT put across six  tries in the second half using a good combination of pace and power.   Final score:  47-17.

The final match of the day was a spirited contest between the UT Reserves and the Memphis Reserves.  Played as 2 20-minute periods, the Vols built a steady lead and finished with a decisive 20-0 victory.

Thanks to Brian Silkwood and Sumner Rugby for hosting a great day of rugby.
