Championship Tournament Summary

The Volunteers got off to a shaky start against an athletic team from Auburn with the Vols scoring late to take the opening game 12-10.  In the second pool match the Vols dug a hole and never could climb out losing to Kentucky 0-17.  In the final pool match, UT finally put together effort and ability and raced past Ole Miss 35-5.

The Volunteers faced tournament favorite South Carolina in the semi-final. The Gamecocks took advantage of every UT mistake to open up the game in the second half and prevail 32-0. As has become disappointingly commonplace in a UT v USC contest, the match was full of trash talk and foul language, foul play and retaliation. Overall -  disappointing score, disappointing performance and disappointing sportsmanship.

The loss in the semifinal relegated the Volunteers to the Consolation match against Alabama. Given that each team had several players that played together in the SCRC All-star Team less than a month ago provided a much different atmosphere.  Different atmosphere; same errors by the Vols; and the Crimson Tide took advantage in the second half to win 21-7 forcing the Vols to settle for 4th.
