Harmon, Scherer, and Yeager join the Volunteers

Tennessee Rugby returned to Ravenwood High School this week and again signed three seniors to play for the Volunteers.  Just as in 2017, the Raptors held a ceremony to honor the student athletes and their commitment to play athletics in college.

The University of Tennessee Men's Rugby Team welcomes Ravenwood's Drew Harmon, Cameron Scherer and Timmy Yeager!

Drew Harmon

Drew began his rugby career in middle school only to take a brief break for football before returning to the game in high school.  The 6'0" 225 lbs front rower is known for working the hard yards for the Raptors and will see plenty of action as a freshman at Tennessee.

"Drew is a quality young man who is ready for the next level.  He will prove to be a valuable asset to the Tennessee Program on many levels as he was chosen to Captain his team this year – even after deferring to football for the past 3 years.  He came home and we welcomed him with open arms."

Cameron Scherer

Cameron has played rugby and football throughout his 4 year high school career.  The 5'9" 175 lb back has excelled at center and wing while also enjoying success in the sevens game.

"Cameron is a Cancer Survivor whose amazing story continues to grow.  As a freshman he recruited top talent for us, then as a sophomore and junior – the same.  Then in his senior year he was “O-fer” in his attempts to pull the sawdust out of some of the senior footballer’s heads and get them “into the game” … so it was left to Cameron to work that much harder and play through pain many times when others wouldn’t have. He is one of the toughest players we have ever had … he runs hard, tackles hard, plays hard in every way.  UT is getting a big ball of Orange Goo to groom into a top-level Collegiate Rugby Player."

Timmy Yeager

Timmy (5'10" 175 lbs) has excelled his senior year as the open side flanker for the Raptors.  Not only has he demonstrated his very high work rate in 15's but demonstrated excellent abilities in the 7's game.

"Timmy is a hardworking, passionate rugby player and like his fellow signees, been playing since Middle School. Timmy will continue to grow both mentally and physically as he grows into Rugby Life, College Life, and being a Volunteer!  He is Rugby-Focused and cannot wait to become a player for Coach Bradley!"
